City and County of Broomfield, CO Parks and Recreation Adult Volleyball League Rules
Current United States Volleyball rules will be used for and in conjunction with the following:
- TEAM ROSTERS
- A player’s name must appear on a team’s roster before he/she can play. Rosters will be frozen after the first round of league play. All players added after that date are subject to the approval of the league supervisor. Team rosters are unlimited, however awards will be limited. In order to participate in a league tournament, a player must not only be on the roster, but also have played in at least one league game.
- PLAYER ELIGIBILITY
All players must be 16 years of age as of the current year.
- GAME REGULATIONS
- Teams will play three games in a match with all three counting towards league standings.
The first 2 will be rally scoring to 21, let serves. The third game will be to 21 unless there is less than 15 min till the next schedule game. If less than 15 min remain the third game will be played to 15. Team must win by 2 with a 25 point cap. (17 if the game is to 15)
- Each team is allowed only one time-out per game.
- The substitution rule for this league will be unlimited, however, each person must sub in between the same two people. Line calls will be on the honor system. 6 person B leagues may use the center back rotation. Must notify referee prior to game.
- Six Person Leagues: Teams may start and finish the game with five players. For coed it can be three men and two women, three women and two men or four women and one or two men. When playing with five, the serving position for the sixth player will be a side out. There can never be more than three men on the court. The Ghost only counts for the serve, it does not count for court position.
Four Person Leagues: Teams may play with no more that two men on the court at any time. Any combination of men and women is allowed as long as there is at least one from each gender on the court.
- Game time is forfeit time. If a team is not ready to play at the scheduled game time, the first game will be forfeited and the team has 15 minutes before the next scheduled game is forfeited. Then they have 15 minutes before the final game is forfeited. Any team that forfeits two matches during the season may be dropped from the league with no refund.
- All players must abide by all regulations and the Code of Conduct of the Broomfield Recreation Adult Volleyball League. Copies of these regulations are available upon request at the Broomfield Recreation Sports and Athletic Office.
Protest on player eligibility must be made before the last point of the first game. At time of protest a $20 CASH fee must be paid to the gym supervisor. Player(s) in question will have five minutes to produce a picture I.D. If no proof of picture I.D. the player(s) is ineligible to continue participation in that game. If no proof the game is a forfeit. If the protest is upheld the $20 fee will be returned.
- 4 ON 4 RULES
- USAV Doubles Rules will apply for all games.
- Players may go under the net without a fault
- No opened hand dinking is allowed
- Serving order must alternate
- There are no position faults.
- If the ball is hit more than once (coed) the ball must be played by a woman before it goes over the net.
- One toss per serve (if the ball drops to the ground or is caught it is a sideout).
- TIE BREAKING PROCEDURES:
If two teams tie in the overall league record, the tie will be broken by head to head competition, and second on the point spread. If still tied, then comparison of the point spread based on total games played. If still tied, then flip of a coin.
ANY TEAM FORFEITING A GAME WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DROPPED FROM THE TIE.
