City of Lakewood, CO Parks and Recreation Adult Coed Softball Rules and Regulations
Men's Slo-Pitch rules are in effect with the following exceptions:
- The normal compliment of players on a COED team is five (5) women and five (5) men, or in the case of teams employing AH's, six (6) women and six (6) men. THE MINIMUM LEGAL NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS SHALL BE four (4) women and four (4) men present and ready to play. Teams may also legally play with either of the following:
- Five (5) women and three (3) men.
- Six (6) women and four (4) men.
Teams can never bat more men than women.
- The batting order will consist alternately of a man and a woman. (MEN AND
WOMEN PINCH-HITTERS MUST REPLACE MEN/WOMEN RESPECTIVELY.)
- Players may play any position they want to. They do not have to alternate positions.
- The "AH(s)" may be substituted for at any time, either by pinch-runner(s) or pinch-hitter(s), who then become the "AH(s)." The substitute(s) must be a player(s) who has not yet been in the game.
- Male Dominance Rules:
- 175' line - all outfielders must be standing behind this line for every batter.
Once the ball has been hit, any outfielder may cross the line.
- If an outfielder crosses the line prior to the ball being hit by the batter, the umpire will signal a delayed dead ball. The ball will remain live.
- If the obstructed runner is put out prior to reaching the base
Which he/she would have reached had there not been an
obstruction, a delayed dead ball is called. The obstructed
runner (and all other runners) will be awarded the base they
would have received, in the umpire's judgment, had there not been an obstruction.
- Any ball that is hit directly at a particular player must be played on by that
player, i.e., a ball hit directly to the person playing second base must be played on by the second baseman. The rule also applies to the outfield. If another player attempts to make a play on the ball, the umpire will signal a delayed dead ball. The ball will remain live. Effect: see co-rec adaptations, Rule E.1.a.(1).
- Catcher's Designated Area. This area is defined as home plate: the left and right field foul lines extending from home plate to a circle of 15' radius. All other players may only back up the play, not make the play. If another player other than the catcher attempts the play within this area, the umpire will signal a delayed dead ball. The ball will remain live. Effect: see co-rec adaptations, Rule E.1.a.(1).
- If, in the judgment of the official, a female fielder is intentionally backing away from a ball hit to her in order to allow a male fielder to make the catch, male dominance will be called. If another player attempts to make a play on the ball, the umpire will signal a delayed dead ball. The ball will remain live. Effect: see co-rec adaptations, Rule E.1.a.(1).
- Substitution: Should a player enter the game, she/he must play at least one inning
defensively before she/he leaves the game.
- Co-ed Home Run Rule: Two (2) home runs per team per game. After the home run limit has been reached, all other home runs shall be counted as outs. A ball must be hit over the fence on the fly to count as a home run in the home run rule limit.
- Any walk to a male batter will result in a two base award. If a team has less than two (2) outs, the female batter must bat. If the team has two (2) outs, the female batter will have the option to walk or bat.
